Ronald E. Roel is a veteran journalist and author who is passionate about promoting “successful aging,” providing useful information, pragmatic solutions and compelling stories to help people explore rewarding experiences throughout their lifetime. Over the last decade, Ron has developed a particularly strong interest in supporting family caregivers and the professional caregiving community, as one of four brothers who took care of their mother for almost 25 years, experiencing practically every stage of caregiving, from aging in place to hospice.

Ron is president of Roel Resources, an editorial consulting firm that provides writing and research services, specializing in aging, intergenerational issues, and retirement planning. In addition to launching the Caregiving Navigator, he is the creator of Roelresources.com, a website that offers provocative and inspirational essays for the active aging population. He has been a consultant to AARP Long Island, writing articles and providing services in programs focusing on caregiving, AARP’s Age-Friendly Communities and Life Reimagined Program. Ron also served on the Advisory Board for the Glen Cove Senior Center’s innovative Campaign Against Dementia initiative. He has also been a writer, project manager and supervisor of web services for the Communications and Marketing Office of the City University of New York.

Over nearly 20 years, Ron held several positions at Long Island’s daily newspaper, Newsday. Ron helped found the weekly Act 2 retirement planning section and continues to be active in several organizations that promote seniors as well as intergenerational programs and policies. The recipient of several journalism awards, he has been a participant and speaker at many local conferences, including forums for AARP; Vision Long Island; Gerontology Professionals of Long Island; and the Nassau-Suffolk region of the New York State Public Health Association. He is the co-author of three books and has written numerous articles and major business reports.

Raised on Long Island, Ron has been an instructor at several local universities, teaching “News Literacy” and “The History and Future of the American Press” at Stony Brook University’s Journalism School. He is a graduate of Yale College and the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.
