The Caregiving Navigator is a dynamic interactive tool designed to help hundreds of thousands of Long Island families who provide vital care for their aging parents, relatives and friends. Along with a print version of this guide, the Navigator spells out for caregivers and their loved ones how to plan along the way, what to do, and where to turn for the most useful resources and services.

Caregiving is a continuum, and by following the navigational tabs on this site, you can address family needs at each step of the caregiving journey, from Preparing a Plan to Managing Long-Term Care—and all the while, taking care of yourself!

Each area of caregiving offers a compendium of tips, checklists, key questions to ask, resources, and strategies. Our goal is to save you time and energy, to streamline your to-do list, instead of endlessly searching the internet to find what you need, when you need it. And our focus is local—helping people find accessible community resources and services as close to home as possible.

We know that many caregivers are stressed out—physically, emotionally, and financially. Researchers say that that nearly half of adults in their 40s and 50s are part of the “Sandwich Generation,” caring for both parents and their own children; and nearly 60% of caregivers either work or have worked while providing care. At the same time, many seniors are reporting that they need care, but aren’t getting it, whether at home or in community facilities.

Family conversations about caregiving start around the kitchen table, and our mission is to grow these intergenerational conversations into a nationwide Quality Caregiving Movement. We want to not only support seniors and their caregivers today, but to prepare the next generations, encouraging adult caregivers think about their own future and make things easier for their loved ones to take care of them when the time comes.
