This program provides in-home companions for older adults with chronic disease or dementia. There is a sliding fee for ongoing 2- to 6-hour, one day a week, visits.

Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center (LIAD)

Long Island Alzheimer's and Dementia Center’s Caregiver Support Groups are tailored to the needs and experiences of spouses, adult children, loved ones, and the bereaved. They are held virtually via Zoom or in-person at the LIAD Center. Support groups include:

  • Early to Moderate Stage Spousal Support
  • Late Stage and Hospice Spousal Support 
  • Spousal Support
  • Adult Children Support 

The Stony Brook Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease

One of 10 such centers in New York State, funded in part by the state health department, the center serves as a regional resource, offering up-to-date information about the disease and assisting family members by recommending resources and other caregiver support.

Suffolk County Respite Care Program

The Senior Respite Program offers in-home supervision for older adults with chronic disease or dementia. There is a sliding scale fee.

Through the Caregiver Support Program, local Caregiver Support Coordinators can provide a full range of VA health care services for veterans with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Depending on the veteran's needs, services may include home-based primary care, homemaker and home health aide, respite care, adult day health care, outpatient clinic, inpatient hospital, nursing home, palliative care or hospice care.
