This is a free information and referral service that connects Long Island residents to a wide array of health and human services, including dozens of respite services (search for caregiving).
EAC Network
A program of the EAC Network, a nonprofit human service agency with dozens of programs throughout Long Island and New York City, the senior respite program provides in-home companions for older adults with chronic disease or dementia. There is a sliding fee for ongoing 2- to 6-hour, one day a week, visits.

This caregiver support initiative provides free in-home consultations for family caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as in-person and telephone support groups; education and training programs at public libraries across Long Island, respite care; access to volunteer caregiver companions; and memory cafes, which bring together caregivers and people facing memory loss. The program is supported in part by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.

The Nassau County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Respite and Friendly Visiting Program places volunteers over age 55 in community-based settings where they address issues such as social isolation for homebound seniors.

This office provides respite care through its Family Caregiver Support Program. The suggested contribution is based on ability to pay.
U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Through the Caregiver Support Program, local Caregiver Support Coordinators can provide up to 30 days of respite care per year in blocks of time from 2 to 6 hours or grouped to allow the caregiver to go out of town for say, a family wedding or business trip. The care can be offered in a variety of settings, including at your home or through temporary placement in a VA facility. Under a separate benefit, veterans are entitled to attend an adult day care program 5 days a week.
